Renaissance originated from the towns or (communes) of Italy in the late 1300`s. Italy had managed to avoid the smashing economic crisis of the dark ages because Italian towns remained important trade centers of the Mediterranean and Italians were proud of their wealth and prosperity. Through trade they remained attached to unequivocal traditions as the Byzantine Empire. Scholars from the Byzantine Empire brought knowledge and skills of past Greece to Italy. They were more in-touch with their past by beh senileing the remains of the Roman Empire.

As new antediluvian patriarch documents were existence discovered, Italian scholars developed an enthusiasm in unmixed literary productions and thinking. This came to be known as humanism and the people who promoted the classical ideas were known as humanists. They studied old manuscripts, improved their Grecian and Latin and adopted many ancient Greek and Roman beliefs. Most important was the belief of the dignity and worth of all living individual.

Early important humanists were Francesco Petrarch and Giovanni Boccacia who studied the classics and collected ancient manuscripts. In Italy medieval practices such as feudalism were non accepted by the people. Italy was not united, it was divided into many city-states.



During that condemnation the lower class was fighting the upper classes for more semipolitical rights and there were also conflicts between the city-states. Because the cost of these conflicts was too high, they found the first diplomatic agreements in the form of ambassadors to maintain mollification and stability.

Italian renaissance writers and thinkers were the first to see that Europe was abandoning the old medieval thinking and entering a new age. They believed in a new civilization inspired by ancient ideals and thinking. They began improving literature education and rules of conduct.
