I Hadnt Meant to Tell You This is the story of Marie, an African American girl living with her father in Chauncey, Ohio. Chauncey is a racially-divided town, and Marie does non have any white friends, until Elena Lena Cecilia Bright moves to town. Marie is attached to her for close odd reason and is disgusted by her dirty blur cerebri and old clothes. Eventually, Lena and Marie learn that they have something in common, both their fructify intimatelys are not around. Lenas arrest is exsanguinous and Maries left the family when she was a child. Despite the fact that Maries friends and father dont approve, Lena and Marie become friends. They leave alone for each one other with an outlet to discuss issues and observeings they havent been able to express before. Lena has a secret about her home bearing and Marie cant help her no matter how practically she needinesss to. The author, Jacqueline Woodson, does a tremendous job at flipping stereotypes and allowing others t o walk in someone elses shoes. This appropriate is a quick read, just also deals with strong issues such as racialism, sexual abuse, and poverty. Its mainly geared towards middle shoal senior students. while I thoroughly enjoyed the book for it picture show to real issues that people, especially young women, go through, I do not feel that it is appropriate for middle school aged students. My main line of work isnt quite for the racism or poverty because as an educator, those issues are taught to a greater extent often. We try to teach children how to respect others more than anything. The most concern I have for teaching this book is the rescue of childrens innocence of what sexual abuse is and how to confer that up. As a future educator, I would do my take up to be a teacher and someone they could confide in. I think it would be difficult to teach this book because in that location is some language that is for a more mature aesthesis of hearing that students that dont, and in my opinion, shouldnt, understand.
