The genre of American Gothic Literature is a mixture of two horror and romance. It is believed that the Horace Walpole, with the novel he wrote in 1764 named, The Castle of Otranto. With this novel it gave a feeling of both fear and romance which, was new at that time. Walpole also have melodrama and parody (including self-parody). Horace was born in 1717 and died in 1797, 4th Earl of Orford, and was a politician. He was born in London, the youngest son of Prime rector Robert Walpole. He went to three colleges, Kings College, Eton College and Cambridge. American Gothic fabrication is greatly associated with the Gothic Revival architecture of the same time. The literary Gothic has an appreciation of the joys of extreme emotion, the thrills of fearfulness and admiration inseparable in the sublime, and a quest for atmosphere.
