1910, August 30th:

I throw deep returned from a marvellous holiday to Blackpool. It was ever so harming to consume a break from working at the factory. What I mean to check out is, while I understand that I view a good life compargond to many, I have of late come to the realisation that Mr. rotate has not been pay what we rightfully deserve! While on my leave, I met with a charming group of young ladies from another factory. They told me that they earned a pay of 25 shillings while we must survive on only 23 and 6 per week! We at Birling & Co. feel that this does not suffice our needs and have concord it would be best for us all if we asked for a kindle in our payments. I, along with five others, have been nominated to spill with Mr. B. I would never tell this to a single soul, precisely I am frightened for my future.

1910, September 6th:

I am fuming! I feel that my heart shall rupture! Mr. B. declined our requests for a raise, albeit our credible argument. It seems that the only behavior to light what we desire is to strike. Mr. B. exit not be expecting it, I can only foretaste the others will agree…

1910, September 7th:

We are on strike. It is exhilarating to be free from such a grievous place of oppression! I am one of the leaders; they all look up to me for guidance. Mr. B.



was not expecting such a hard working group of young ladies to rebel against him! We are determined to keep the strike going until we get what we postulate!

1910, September 22nd:

The strike is over and I have been let go. According to Mr. B. I was one of sixsome ringleaders of the strike. He said I had a lot to say for myself. And so he fired me. Now I have no job, no money, no food and no way to survive. I do not know what shall become of me. I am already feeling the pains of hunger commencement to set in.

1910, November 17th:
